MALE UNDERWEAR MODELLING: HOW TO BECOME A MALE UNDERWEAR MODEL
‘I would like to model for your men’s underwear brand, but I would have to speak with my parents first’. Underwear is one of the essentials in clothing that everyone wears, yet underwear modelling is seen as adult content. Underwear models are almost treated as adult content or Onlyfans creators. Underwear modelling, especially of guys, is very censored across all social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and so on.
I am Alex Gede, I am a male underwear model for Club Seven Menswear. I have been doing men underwear modelling for more than 5 years now and today I will share with you how you can be an underwear model. If you are not a big fan of reading, you can watch the YouTube version here. It would be best to start with how I went into underwear modelling.
How it all started
I have always wanted to be a model. When I started going to the gym and started seeing noticeable progress, I started fitness competitions and started posting on social media. I then quickly summed up the courage to start applying to modelling agencies. Not long I started doing fashion, fitness, runway and fitness modelling. The bigger and more defined my body was getting, the fewer clothes I wore and the less fashion modelling I was doing. I then found myself doing lots of underwear reviews on YouTube and a lot of sponsored posts on Instagram working with the biggest underwear brands. Before we look at how to become a male underwear model, let us look at some of the questions I get asked a lot.
Must I be toned to be a male underwear model? You do not need to have 6 6-pack to be a men’s underwear model. You just need to be confident about your body. If you are not confident, it is going to translate into the images. One of my favourite Club Seven Menswear models is a plus-size model. I just love his energy and how amazing it is to work with him. So he gets invited every time.
Must I love underwear to become a male underwear model? I love underwear and get excited about trying on new pairs and different designs. You should love men’s underwear and men's underwear if you want to get into underwear modelling. The love you have for underwear is going to give you the motivation to start. When you are in front of the camera, the love you have for underwear will help you be in the moment and have fun with it. This will show in the images. The photographer and everyone around will also love working with you. Loving underwear will help your men's underwear modelling career.

How much do male underwear models earn?
If you are not a famous actor or a social media influencer with millions of followers, do not expect four to five-digit earnings with each job. The model's earnings depend on the size of the brand and whether there is a buyout or not. If the brand is paying for a day’s shoot and is not a big brand, your earnings will most likely be in the 3-digit.
How to become a male underwear model?
Start by testing if you would love men’s underwear modelling. Test this by taking lots of underwear selfies – please send them my way especially if it is with Club Seven Underwear. If you don’t like taking men’s underwear selfies, men's underwear modelling might not be for you. Men’s underwear modelling is pretty much photographers taking pictures of you in underwear.
Social Media Portfolio
Use social media as your portfolio and post your men’s underwear selfies and any men’s underwear photoshoots you do. This will increase your confidence and also show brands what you have to offer. Brands are more likely to sponsor or invite you to model for them if you are active on social media and have a good following.
Modelling agency
If you want to take your modelling career to the next level, apply to join a modelling agency. You can look up reputable modelling agencies in your city and apply to them or go to their open-day castings. Remember, you are the product, and if an agency believes they will have lots of jobs for you, they will not ask you to pay anything.
Men’s underwear modelling is a very niche area of modelling with relatively fewer brands to work with. So, I would recommend adding some other types of modelling to your portfolio so that you can fill up your calendar with modelling jobs. This means that you need to have a diversified portfolio.
